Use this tool to calculate any of the three key running variables: pace, finish time, or distance. Simply choose a mode, enter two values and get the result instantly — no button to press.
Running pace is the time it takes to cover one unit of distance, expressed in minutes per kilometer (min/km) or minutes per mile (min/mi). A pace of 5:00/km means it takes 5 minutes to run 1 kilometer.
It depends on your fitness level and goal. Recreational runners typically average 6–8 min/km (10–13 min/mi). Intermediate runners aim for 4:30–6:00/km (7:15–9:40/mi). Elite marathon runners sustain paces below 3:00/km (under 4:50/mi).
Switch to Time mode, select the Full Marathon preset and enter your goal pace. The tool will show your predicted finish time. Alternatively, use Pace mode with a recent training run to estimate your current fitness pace.
Pace is time per distance (e.g. 5:00/km), while speed is distance per time (e.g. 12 km/h). Runners typically use pace because it relates directly to effort on a treadmill or GPS watch. Speed is more common in cycling.
Multiply your min/km pace by 1.60934 to get min/mile. For example, 5:00/km = 8:03/mi. Use the km / mi toggle in this calculator to convert automatically.
